Get Snappy - Amrita Arora
You seem to have taken residency in the Bermuda triangle having endured the past one year without a single release. Still in the reckoning?
Honestly. I was buying some time alongside doing some good work. And the wait has certainly proven productive since I have six releases in the coming year. Mahesh Manjrekar's 'Rakth' with Sunjay Dutt, 'Deh' with Dino Morea, Harry Baweja's next. Sajid Nadiadwala's Mujhse Shaadi Karoge' with Salman Khan and many more. Besided, my last two films, 'Awaara Paagal Deewana' and 'Ek Aur Ek Gyarag' were hits, so, am I in the reckoning? The answer is a resounding yes!
'Ek Aur Ek Gyarah' was only one of the three films released that was produced by Subhash Ghai who signed you for a conract of three films, where are the rest? For his next, 'Aitraaz' he's taken Kareena and Priyanka.
Why 'Aitraaz'? Even Mr. Ghai's 'Kisna 'with Vivek Oberoi doesn't teature me. Look, when I signed the contract with Mukta Arts. Subhash Ghai had discussed it ritht at the onset that he would take me on the projects that he felt were suitable for me. I'm not one to question his decisions. I trust him completely, it he feels some subject is good enough for me, he will take me.
You are to Salman Khan an extended family. But in Sajid Nadiadwala's 'Mujhse Shaadi Karoge', you play second fiddle to Priyanka Chopra, why couldn't you be the main lead?
This only proves that family connections don't work in this industry. Personally, I never expected anything from Salman or Sajid. They were very specific about my role right from the beginning. Apart from that, I'm not disillusioned with the fact that Priyanka is the heroine of the film. As for mini appearances or second leads, one could ask why Rani Mukherji has done so many such roles in every Karan Johar's films. I'm positive that I will benefit from this role. And if it helps, right from a Rani to a Celina had considered this role.
Having entered this industry with a bubble-gum image, you consciously worked towards turning seductress, item number, 'Dilli ki sardi' being proof. With an outburst of sex symbols like Lara, Celina and Priyanka, do you stand a chance?
I haven't consciously micromanaged to put on the sexy image; it's been a natural progression. Beiing sexy is a state of mind, after all. Also as an actress one needs to be chameleon like, which can range from being sweet to beign sensuous. As for standing a chacne with the sexy ingenue, Priyanka, Celina, Lara and I entered the cine scene more or less at the same time, and each of us have ample work to keep us busy. But really, thanks to Lara, Priyanka and Celina, the industry perceives sexuality in a different way.
With the introduction of the very charming, Upen Patel in your life, how's it being in love once again? Is this time for keeps?
Being in love is always an elated feeling. I don't know what the destination of my relationship with Upen will be. All I know is we share a lit in terms of friendship and our common goals in life. I prefer not laying any pressures on any relationship. I din't feel love has to follow a pattern. Right now I'm just content being in that bubble.
