Zayed is Mr. popular
The strange thing about Zayed is that while most actors have to adapt to the role they get, the role in Main Hoon Na was changed to suit Zayed after Hrithik Roshan dropped out. The yarn about how Zayed bagged his Main Hoon Na role is cute.
When they met, Shah Rukh bluntly asked him if he could act. Dumb founded for a second, zayed quickly recovered, lifted his small and index fingers in that now famous gesture and drawled, "Hey, I was born to act!"
Shah Rukh was floored and Zayed was in. The character was earlier supposed to be macho; when Zayed walked in they changed the role to Funky Dude. Director Farah treated him like a kid brother and whacked him whenever he goofed up. There was that horrendous four-minute dialogue shot which Zayed just could not handle.
Eight nerve-wracking takes went by before Shah Rukh led Zayed to his make-up van and made him rehearse for two full hours. The scene went smooth as silk after that. Now Shah Rukh wishes his son would grow up to be as charming and likeable as Zayed.
