Get Snappy - Salman Khan
What prompted you to do this film, 'Phir Milenge' with Revathy?
Shilpa Shetty had already spoken to me about this film and I was aware that the main lead wasn't signed. I asked her if she'd found someone for the lead, which she hadn't. She said she had approached many actors in vain. I asked her if she wanted to approach me. She did, I said yes pronto, and the rest is history. Apart form that. I think the subject of the film appealed to me a lot, so I was keen on doing the film.
So what is the issue that this film deals with? Going by Revathy's last film, 'Mitr - My Friend' it the parallel cinema genre as well?
It is the love story of an AIDS patient, but it's cut to fit the parameters of commercial cinema. Filmmakers have to take up such issues. We take on cancer, heart attacks all the time in our films, so why not AIDS? There is no better way to create awareness about what is rampant than through mainstream cinema. It's a very moving story with Revathy's special touch to it.
Since Revathy has already been your co-star in 'Love', the atmosphere on the sets must have been really easy?
Well, let me say. the little acting I know today is thanks to Revathy. I don't want to talk about 'Love'. as it wasn't a commercial success as such. But I remember Revathy would give me pointers on how to improvise on a particular scene. I remember there was a stunt where I had to do a triple somersault and she taught me how (laughs). She even showed me herself how the stunt was to be done.In fact, if there's a cross between Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Sooraj Barjatya, it's Revathy.
You seem to be increasingly gravitating towards sensitive subjects, which is a complete departure from the regular dishum dishum films that you're oh so popular for. Change of mood?
I can't be doing action films all the time. Besides, I'm growing old, I don't think I can stretch and throw kicks in the air anymore. Seriously, I haven't washed my hands off commercial films, it still remains my forte. But I've always been open to good scripts and new subjects.
Playing an AIDS patient right've proved positive for Hollywood actor Tom Hunks with his award winning 'Philadelphia', But the same rules might not apply here?
'AIDS' is just a disease like Cancer or any other. I don't think that it would affect my image if I play such a role. That's why I accepted the role.
