Get Snappy - Rimi Sen
Despite delivering a hit like 'Hungama' under Priyadarshan's direction, he hasn't repeated you in his next 'Hulchul'. Instead, he's cast Kareena Kapoor and Akshaye Khanna. Doesn't that disapoint you?
Not at all. It's not necessary that just because Priyadarshan had a hit with me he should repeat me in all his future projects. I don't come from that school of thought. He probaby wanted a glamorous star in the film and I don't think I can ever compete with Kareena in that department. I'm grateful to Priyadarshan for giving me a chance to work with him, and I don't have any further expectations.
You first got recognized with your 'Arrey Bhaiya' Coke ad with Aamir Khan, with whom you shared a good rapport with when shooting the ommercial. How come the hasn't even offered you a mini role in 'The Rising' where he seemed to have a say in the casting?
Yes, we did share a good rapport during the shoot. But that doesn't mean it has to translate into a film offer. I interacted with Aamir precisely for two days during the making of the commercial, so I can't expect him to offer me a film. He was very nice to me even though I was a rank new comer, which really encouraged me.
One saw you activety involved at the lauch of 'Ranveer', Amitabh's home production, doing the social rounds with Jaya Bachchan. Was it their recommendation that landed you 'Dhoom' with son Abhishek?
Since I had acted in 'Baghbaan' with Amitji, he invited me for his b'day party, and also the launch of 'Ranveer'. I was ever so ecstatic, but told him that i knew no one from the film fraternity. He took me to Jayaji who asked me to stay with her through the evening. But I wasn't doing any conscious P.R. I did tell Abhishek, maybe someday we would do a film together. 'Dhoom' happened by chance when I had gone to meet Kunal Kohli at the Yash Raj office and accidentally bumped into director Sanjay Gadhvi. He was casting for the film and I was quick to sign the project.
Why are you keeping so low key, while most actresses are spotted at more parties than the studios? Don't you fit in?
So right, I don't. I just can't see. myself going for thee inane .....parties where I don't belong. And inherently, I'm not such a party person, I get really bored at such social affairs. Frankly, until I sign that phenomenal banner or film, I don't see the point in splashing myself all over the media. I'm here to act, not to make friends.
Both the films that you have been a part of, 'Hungama' and 'Baghbaan', have been stupendous hits. However, there's been no activity since. It seems like you are not aggressive about your career?
I've had plenty of offers coming my way, but nothing worthwhile. My three priorities are a good banner, script and director. I'm not one to sign ten trashy films to cash in on my previuos hits, hoping that at least one of them will work at the box office. I would rather wait for one good film. I just finished shooting for a Jhamu Sughand production with a Bengali director, which is to be screened at international Film Festivals, and then there's 'Dhoom'. That's good enough for me.
