Salman's hat-trick
Spirits in the industry soared again last week when yet another Salman starrer opened to bumper houses. Daved Dhawan's comic fare, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, had the Delhi audience in splits and the distributor laughing all the way to the bank.
Acquired at a moderate price of approximately Rs2 crore, the film is goeng great guns on the strenght of mass patronage: the stalls are filling up faster than the balcony. The divide is also evident in the multiplexes as against single-dcreen cinemas.
This film is not doing as well in Maharastra though the Mumbai distributor has paid nearly double the price paid by the Delhi U.P. distributor. Quite sadly for David Dhawan, the classes arenot patronising Mujhse Shaadi Karogi in a big way even thoiugh it has none of the double entendres his films are so famous foe! May be, his next film will see more elitist public patronising it alongwith the aam janata.
Although it is Akshay Kumar's performance that has been liked by people more than Salman's it is definitely Salman's presence which ensured the tremendous opening. The Khan struck back with a vengeance last August after a terrible phase, withTere Naam. His charisma seems to be only growing with each passion day. Four weeks back, his Garv shattered opening records and now MSK has re-established Salman as one of the most reliable actors, at least for an opening draw.
This week's Taarzan- The wonder Car is crucial for producer Gordhan Tanwani who has spent over Rs 15 crores on the thriller which introduces Vatsal Sheth and Ayesha Takia, After Tere Naam and Garv, Salman Khan scores a hat-trick with Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (above), thereby proving that he is one of the most saleable stars on the box-office.
