If there's one song you won't hear the patels humming anymore, it's 'we are family'. The family stands divided after Amisha slapped a suit against mama and papa patel over money. 'Stardust' broke the story last month, here's a follow up on the aftermath. No one's happy, and here's getting slappy with Amisha!
Was taking legal action absolutely the last resort left for you?
Without a doubt. You think I would have taken such a drastic step if I didn't have to? This had been going on for a long time, and I tried to maintain my dignity not talking about the issue. But they have unnecessarily dragged Vikram in the issue and made him a scapegoat. Yes, he's a very special person and has been a pillar of support in my difficult times along with Rikkuji, who's like a father to me now. This incident has opened my eyes, I really know who's there for me, who are my friends.
But there are people who will point fingers at you saying, 'How can she do this to her own parents?'
Yes, I am aware that people will say so because they are going to be shocked. It's the purest known relationship of a parent and their child that's in question here. But people have to understand that it took me nine months to get over this shock myself and I had no option. I think from all that has come out, thanks to you guys, I am sure people will know who's right and who's not!
Your brother Ashmit stands by your parents in this whole issue. Would you still advise him to let his finances be handled by your parents?
Look at the irony of that question. Am I not the wrongest person to give any advice to anyone, forget Ashmit, on financial matters. All I can say from what I have learnt is that one should take care of their own finances and not trust anyone with them.
Tomorrow, if your parents return the money, would it be the same with them, since money seems to be the issue?
It can never be the same between us now. Money was the problem, yes, but my issue is about trust, about being wronged, it's about one's principles.
When this whole imbroglio was happening, there were rumours that you were threatened by your family. How far is that true?
I am not a person who feels threatened. In fact, nobody should be threatened by anybody. If you are on the side of truth, you will always feel strong.
After this financial setback, does one see you doing many more films to make up for the lost time and money?
No. I am still going to be as choosy as I was. Nothing's gonna change in my life. But they say, a tragedy makes performers even more creative, they have a strange fire in them after that. I think the same is happening to me now. And I can only hope to do much better that I ever did.
