Get Snappy - Emraan Hashmi
Though he didn't make headlines with his debut in 'Foothpath', the success of 'Murder' brought him into the news for ousting mallika sherawat from the bhatt camp. The adroit actor, Emraan Hashmi gets snappy on his forthcoming release 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha', movies beyond vishesh films, and of course, his 'favorite', Mallika Sherawat.
After the brazen and bold 'Murder', and looking at the promos of 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha', it looks like you're going to only do such 'sleaze' films, is it?
Agreed, 'Murder' was a bold film, but 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha' is a sweet romantic film. You're judging the film just on the basis of the initial teaser of me kissing Dia and the song promo. But that's the closest it comes to the 'hot' aspect of the film. We don't want to pitch it as a 'hot and bold' film 'coz it's not. It's not that I'm doing only films with hot scenes, as I don't want to be slotted doing only one type of roles.
Aren't you apprehensive that since Dia is playing a bar dancer, a role with enough glamour, the focus will obviously be on her?
As I said, it's a sweet romantic film, where I play a rich spoilt brat and Dia's a bar dancer and how we fall in love. I'm not bothered about who's in focus. I'm here to do my job to the best of my abilities. And with my character, I do have plenty of scope to perform a wide range of emotions, from comedy to sensitivity. I hope to be appreciated for my performance, 'coz being a newcomer, I've to work at finding a place in the audience's hearts.
'Foothpath', 'Murder' and now 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha'. Are you going to work only with the Bhatt's Vishesh Films' ventures, in spite of the fact that they're not good paymasters?
The Bhatt's gave me my first break in 'Foothpath'. Seeing my work, they offered me 'Murder'. As I said, I've been getting offers from other filmmakers too, but not the kind of roles that I'd like to do or enjoy doing. I'm not just an actor with Vishesh Films productions, giving my shot and disappearing into the van. I'm involved in the production and I'm also assisting director Anurag Basu at the same time. Money's not a problem here, not only because it's a family thing, but also because I'm involved with the whole process of filmmaking. And for the record, I'm doing 'Aankh Micholi' with an outside producer, and also being paid very well for it.
You've signed not one, but two films with the same new banner, Flag Universal, and that too with first time directors? What prompted you to do that?
I'm doing 'Aankh Micholi' because I liked the script when it was first narrated to me by the director Babloo Sheshadri, who's also a very good friend. As for the other film, 'Accused - Ek Ilzaam', I'll do it only if I like the script, which is still being worked on. That's the agreement I have with these producers. Besides, I'm in a the process of finalizing a couple of films with other producers too.
Despite you having ousted Mallika Sherawat from the Bhatt camp, her career seems to be going great guns, what with international projects like the Jackie Chan film for starters.
I have no regrets over whatever happened, because I acted in the best interests of the film 'Murder', and director Anurag Basu. I was also being precautious as we were supposed to do a film that my cousin Mohit was to direct. I might have acted impulsively, but I have no regrets whatsoever. If she's getting international projects, then I'm happy for her and I wish her all the best.
