Praise or Fascination?
Like any other musician, whizkid AR Rahman has a high regard for the lady known as the Golden Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar. Who doesn't? But Rahman says that his feelings for Lataji are inherited from his late father, KA Sekhar, who was an arranger and conductor in Malayalam movies and an ardent fan of Ms Mangeshkar.
Though Rahman's father passed away when he was only nine-years-old, the musician says he remembers the gentleman keeping a life-sized photograph of the singer in their home.
"I used to wonder who this lady was and why such a big picture of her was kept in the house. Later I came to know who she is. My fascination turns into admiration. Thus my fascination for her voice dates back to when I was a kid," explains Rahman. We must say, this is fitting homage from one great musician to another!
