Knot now, I'm Tabu
The lull after the storm: Maqbool was one of my pending films after which I didn't take on any new projects because I wanted to take a break and not do anything during that time. I wanted to take an objective view of my career over the past 16 years. Also, I wasn't offered anything concrete-there a part of. Nothing spectacular made me jump up and start shooting the next day. A role has to excite me and my creativity for me to take it up. But my holiday is over and I'm back!
Project next: I've signed Farhan Akhtar's sister Zoya Akhtar's directorial debut because hers is the kind of film I had envisioned for myself. When Zoya narrated the script to me, I said 'yes'. She couldn't believe me and asked if that meant a 'no' or a 'yes'! I said: 'I don't have second thoughts about your film because I love my role!' The film will go on the floor in February and be completed in 60 days, but it hasn't been titled yet.
Some like it new: I have no problems working with a debutante director. I've always worked with new directors-Madhur Bhandarkar in Chandi Bar and Meghna Gulzar in Filhal. I would love to work with Madhur again because we get along well and share a great working rapport. As for Zoya, she did brilliant-her sensibilities and perception are right. She is experienced because she comes from a filmi family. And she can't go wrong because it's in her genes. Zoya is family for me.
Woman centric films? Lucky me! I am lucky in that I'm being offered the kind of films I want to do. But I've done commercial films like Jaal and Hawa too. Anyway, the thin line between commercial and off-beat cinema is disappearing. Personally, it's important for me to vibe well with the people I work with.
No to marriage, Yes to freedom: It's still too early for me to get married and settle down because I don't want to lose my freedom. Besides, I haven't met anyone earth-shattering enough to marry. I will continue to work after marriage because I can't sit at home. Of course, the film industry is no longer writing off married actresses.
