Simply Shabana
Her fans may wonder where she has disappeared but the full-of-beans Shabana Azmi is never out ok work. It few films roles interest her of late, other issues close to her heart are priority. Like participating in the two-day tribunal on the two-child programme that brought her to the Capital, or the SAARC Writers' meet. "My husband says I can't live without putting my nose into too many things," she laughs.
But then, she believes in what she does. Like initiating people-to-people contract between India and Pakistan. "We have shared heritage," she says. "Since I come from a family of writers who are chroniclers of their time, I understand that humanism is what writers talk about. All people look for are alliances and partnerships, be it as Indians or Pakistanis."
She is also passionate about the population issue: "It's something close to my heart I abhor coerctive population control policies. We have a role model in Kerala that could be replicated all over."
The actor in her is still hungry for meaty roles. She's happy the way her new film, Morning Raga, has shaped up. "I give my best when I get phobic about a film," she says. "And I'm superstitious about talking about my films in advance."
