Pretty Peri packs a new punch
You can feel the lilt in Perizaadd Zorabian's voice even on the phone. Perizaad, who's recovering from a bad bout of cold, however, is loath to take it easy and stay home after not working for three months - "a frustrating time when I was going through these pangs about when would I get a good role" Perizaad refuses to stay away from work even if it means travelling all over India.
She has just done an item act in Satya Bol, and returns with a full-fledged role in Mahesh Dattani's Morning Raaga, co-starring Shabana Azmi.
About working in the film, slated for an October 29 release, she says: "The cast and crew were like one happy family. I play Priyanka, a happy-go-lucky girl who wants to form a rock band and arrives in a village to learn classical music. In the process she meets a woman and discovers a new side to her one that's rooted in the soil."
Perizaad even took lessons in classical music to perfect her reel act and found a new friend in co-star Shabana, whom she affectionately refers to as 'pedamma' (aunty). "I learnt so much from her. I think Morning Raga will always be special to me in many ways, irrespective of its commercial success."
Meanwhile, Perizaad is close to wrapping up Exit, an English film opposite Parker MacDowel. "I play a beauty queen who is very sensual, very aware of her good looks, a diva who has to do a reality show with a British director. It's fun playing a character which is so unlike me," she says.
And now Perizaad who's reading a bit (she's finished The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari) and travelling a lot, is busy "considering lots of scripts" and hoping for some more "satisfying stuff".
All the best, Perizaad.
