Beefcake John wants variety
John Abraham hates the beefcake tag that's firmly attached to his name. In fact if you believe John, he doesn't even consider himself "good looking enough. I am passably attractive, but hey there's more to an actor than his looks. You needs brains, the ability to emote among other things. How else do you think actors like Amitabh Bachchan or Naseeruddin Shah manage to be legends and continue to inspire people like us? I have very normal looks."
John who's also coming to terms with failure at the box-office (he's had a string of flops to forget: Madhoshi being the latest in line) insists that as an actor he's never particularly bothered about the business a film does "it's not my job to Keep track of the amount of money that a film earns in a week. I prefer to concentrate on my acting skills and improve myself as an actor."
So how does he explain the way he has been shedding his shirt in every second film (think Jism to the more recent Madhoshi) and he points out wryly: "That's incidental. I don't want to consciously take off my shirt in every film, nor do I make a condition that I'll go topless like some other actors do. I'd hate to be called 'shirtless John' or something like that."
John has just also been part of a hit film (Dhoom) and he admits that doing a "boys and their bikes Kind of film was what made him do it. I also met up with my old school friends, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra and found out that they were absolutely cool guys to work with too."
John has a busy year ahead of him: Vikram Bhatt's Elaan, Deepa Mehta's Water among others. "I believe in working in good films, and I also need to share great vibes with people I work with. Money is secondary. I have to enjoy doing the film first."
