Winning in style
Rekha didn't quite need the seal of approval, but this drives it home. Lycra and MTV Style Awards 2004 has just crowned her the Maha Style Icon of the Year.
No prizes for guessing the year's most stylish film personalities: Sanjay Dutt and Preity Zinta. Though Dutt has always been considered a trendsetter, the Munnabhai MBBS star insists he never consciously follows trends: "I just make my own rules and wear whatever suits my personality, be it ear studs or hair colour." Says Preity: "I believe in reinventing my look in every film, and trust my designer to make clothes perfect for my characters."
Raveena Tandon's chhoti bahu attire in Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam won her the Most Stylish Person on TV (female) award, while Farookh Sheikh, with his achkan-bandhgala look on the chat show, Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, was TV's most stylish male icon.
For a change, the Most Stylish Person in Sports isn't a cricketer. Footballer Baichung Bhutia, who prefers to do most of his shopping "in Goa, London or Mumbai, without spending too much time on deciding what to wear" , bagged the award.
Upcoming model Upen Patel proved he is more than Amrita Arora's boyfriend, by winning the Best Dressed Model on Ramp award. Rocky's who styles Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, is this year's Favourite Bollywood Designer, while Aki Narula is the Most Fashionable Designer of the year.
The contest was judged by Fardeen Khan, Feroze Gujral, Jeetendra, Malani Ramani, Mandira Bedi, Manish Malhotra, Nikhil Chinapa and Sukhbir. The winners of the popular categories were decided by viewers of 23.5 million homes.
