The Khan of good times
The devilish eye-brow-arches accentuate a twinkling world of wicked humour. The dimples behind the boyishly evil grin vocalise a lot more than his finely weighed words do. And the innate intelligence almost mocks those he talks to, as if patronising their lack of intellectual edge. Yet, for all the devil he can be, for Shah Rukh Khan, God is in his heaven and all is well with the world. And to believe that, get a load of this: His world shows are the biggest successes ever; his best period is here with hits under the belt and more around the corner with Swades and Veer Zaara and, of late, his home, Mannat, has been party to a host of celebrations. Time for some kingly introspection from the reigning superstar.
"Yes! I'm enjoying myself. The shows have gone well. I'm glad that my film on good relations with our neighbours has done well. And I'm glad I was directed by Farah Khan because I always wanted to be directed by a girl after Hema Malini (Dil Aashna Hai) because all the male directors love their heroines more and the hero is left to his own devices. I say if it is a female director, she will love me more."
In the meantime people were already speculating about the content of Yash Chopra's next, Veer Zaara, supposedly an Indo-Pak theme again. "What can one say? It's a love story, a Yash Chopra film. And I have a little interesting portion of the film where I grow older. It's a story of a soul connection spanning many years. And it has Pakistan in it also, but its not totally central to the plot. It could have been China-India also."
Talking of relations was friendship with Hrithik affected when he didn't do the role that Zayed eventually did?
Hrithik is a sweetheart. I'm very close to him and Suzanne. We meet at least thrice a week and we go for holidays together; so it's a little embarrassing to clarify on this. |
