The power of belief
He first caught the eye of discerning viewers in advertisements and soon took a plunge into the big, bad world of Bollywood with China Gate. But Sameer Soni's maiden innings in the film industry came to a nought, and now, after a gap of several years he was again seen on the big screen in Pamela Rookes' Dance Like A Man. Boyfriend to Anoushka Shankar, his character is the catalyst which leads to the unravelling of several family secrets. "Shooting for that film was a blast. It was wonderful working with Pamela, Arif, Shobhana, Anoushka. Infact, I would keep pulling Anoushka's leg on her Hindi. It was great fun."
But the actor is candid that there might again be some time before he comes on the big screen. "There are no decent offers, that is why you don't see me on the big screen." Soni clarifies that he is not on an ego trip. "I am not asking for the sun and the moon as far as roles and scripts go. As an actor I just have one requirement and that is the role should excite me. I don't take up projects which I do not believe in."
So it is theatre and television for the actor right now with a little bit of modelling thrown in. And there, it is his character Purab, in a daily soap that he is most excited about. "I think he is the perfect man and stands for what we believes in. In fact, he embodies a lot of traits I follow in my professional life. Have the courage to do what you believe in. Making a compromise is considered practical, but don't budge from your path."
On the personal front, the actor reveals that he is single but not ready to mingle. "My parents are looking for a nice girl for me!" he says with a laugh.
It is important, Soni feels that you meet someone who shares your thoughts. "Enjoy the journey of life together," is his mantra when it comes to love.
