'Films are like people...'
It is almost like coming home. From a musical (Rangeela) to taut songless thrillers to a musical again, (Naach) Ram Gopal Varma is back to where he started from. "I did not do songless films as a rule. If a film did not need songs, there were none. With Naach, the subject matter is such that it demanded a musical format. It is the story of a struggling choreographer and actor, and in such a set up songs can add in terms of narrative."
Naach is being touted as an "intense love story" and is the story of a girl who has a clear idea about what she wants from life and how to get it. "She is determined not to compromise while Bachchan Jr who plays her love interest, wants to use the system to get what he wants. How these different outlook effect them, their relationship is what Naach is all about."
Varma's Factory has been churning out movies with amazing regularity but most of them have failed to click at the box-office. So, is there something wrong with the films or is the audience not open to experimentation? Varma dispels the notion that his films are not doing well. "The very fact that we have been able to churn out so many films means we must be going right somewhere. As far as hits and flops go, they have no meaning by definition. What simply exists is what the viewer liked and what they did not. It is not necessary everyone should like all the films. Movies are like people, you like some, you don't like some."
