King Khan's Lajawab!
For once, Shah Rukh Khan is happy to let a 'co-star' hog the limelight. If King Khan shares voice space with son Aryan in Hum Hain Lajawab, dubbed Hindi version of the worldwide animation hit The Incredibles, he's glad. "When kids do something they do it in a simple way, from the heart. That's the reason Aryan sounds better than me in the film," Shah Rukh tells HT City.
SRK has dubbed for the film's central character, Mr Lajawab (Mr Incredible in the original), while son Aryan voices one of the kid super-heroes. "When Aryan saw the stills of The Incredibles, he said only a real hero would do this film. So, when I was approached to dub for the Hindi version, I had to take it up," he says.
Is Aryan a natural like dad? "It is very different the way we professionals act, and the way a child acts," replies SRK. "At times while dubbing, Aryan was unable to understand a word or a line and I would help him out. But that is only because today's children by and large have a limited attention span - they are in a hurry to finish their work."
Shah Rukh admits relating to the lovable superhero: "In the film, Mr Lajawab is like a big bear. He's huge - about 6'4" - but he is a gentleman. He is charismatic and generous. I'd like to believe that I'm as kind as him. Importantly, he has an amount of warmth. I think I have that quality especially when it comes to children."
About the prospects of animation as a genre in India, he is upbeat: "Despite being here for years now, animation has hardly been tapped in India. Raj Kapoor once said he learnt his filmmaking from comic strips he used to read. It's my fantasy to learn how animation is done."
Stay tooned King Khan!
