Big B Joins Fight Against Aids
Amitabh Bachchan, who has been actively involved in the polio eradication drive as well as other humanitarian causes, has just joined in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Bachchan's help, especially considering his huge public profile and universal appeal, will go a long way in raising awareness of his life-threatening disease. It holds major significance, too, with an estimated five million-plus people in India being HIV positive. South African President Nelson Manela was instrumental in roping AB as an ambassador for the cause. "I would like to thank Nelson Mandela for being gracious enough to invite me to be an ambassador," was Bachchan's reaction when speaking to the press at the IFFI, Goa. Interestingly, there are quite a few films based on AIDS being screened at the IFFI this year - including the first Hindi feature film on the issue, Revathy's Phir Milenge and a foreign film called Yesterday. We're sure this starry impetus will give a significant fillip to this all important cause.
