Ash poised to be Jhansi Ki Rani
Film-maker Ketan Mehta might have missed out on working with Aishwarya Rai once before, but he seems to be making it up with a vengeance. Now that Mangal Pandey is finally complete and scheduled for release in June 2005, the film-maker is planning his next venture... sorry, two films at one go. And one of them will star Aishwarya Rai, the actress he'd really been keen on on working with for a while.
"Initially I'd decided to make a trilogy at the very ouset, starting with Mangal Pandey," says Mehta. When we told him that the promos of Mangal Pandey which were premiered with Veer-Zaara drew loud cheers from the paying public, he grins. "It's the Aamir magic at work."
The second film from the trilogy is based on Jhansi Ki Rani and the third on Bahadur Shah Zafar. "It's true Ash has read the script and agreed in principle to do Jhansi Ki Rani. But she hasn't signed the film yet. Yes, she's eager to work in the film."
