Hema packs a double punch
Hema Malini's going small. After close to seven years, Bollywood's former queen bee returns to TV. Hema, a graceful 50-something, spells double trouble in Ravi Chopra's Kamini Damini (Sahara One) premiering on Dec. 27 at 10 p.m. For Hema, doing TV evoked fond memories: "I've never had trouble doing television. At a time when no big star wanted to do TV 1 was doing Nupur for DD. Kamini Damini is a big show that revolves around two sisters and reminds of my Seeta Aur Geeta days."
After Baghban, working with director Ravi Chopra was "a pleasure. Raviji is a wonderful person to work with. Kamini Damini is about a saas who's harassed by her bahu and turns to her NRI sister for help," elaborates Hema.
The actress, who also returns to work with Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan in Babul, doesn't miss doing films. "I want to do only 'good' and 'sensible' roles." Also on the anvil is a script that she's finalising and will probably star both daughter Esha Deol and her in the lead role.
"Now, let us be realistic. Esha is evolving as an actress and I want to bring out the best in her. It would be a challenge to get a script like that." We're content to wait Hemaji.
