Raincoat gets rave international review
Bengali filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh's first Hindi film Raincoat is gaining rave reviews even before its release. Variety magazine has reviewed the movie and has called it a 'chamber-sized gem.' The review acclaims Aishwarya Rai's performance stating "As in Ghosh's previous film, Chokher Bali, Rai reveals herself as a considerable actress given the right script and direction, far from the comic-romantic roles in most of her Bollywood productions. Shunning her usual immaculate make up and duds, and looking more like a broken, malfunctioning doll, she makes Niru a mixture of child and temptress/ charmer, driven by capricious moods and clearly unhappy inside." Also as per the magazine, "Ajay Devgan in ultra lowkey mode is equally impressive, especially in the latter stages as his great love for the woman he once knew reveals itself in an act of charity." With all these encouraging reviews it seems like Raincoat (releasing today) would be an ideal way to end the year 2004.
