Tsunami relief brigade
However undivided and competitive the film industry may appear otherwise, the instant any calamity hits anything India, actors and filmmakers make it a point to get together as one in a welcome relief to the stricken. With most stars either personally visiting the location of the catastrophe, or trying to contribute all they can towards aid and rescue efforts. And it is no different with the recent devastation caused by the tsunami. While film-makers like Subhash Ghai (who's also given a cheque of Rs 25 lakh towards the relief) and Vashu Bhagnani are either holding charity premiere shows or pledging the first-show collections to the victims of the tragedy, Vivek Oberoi is on his way down South with relief supplies. "I have a foundation' in my mother's name," reveals the actor. "And we're extremely concerned about the children there. So we've organised help for about 520 children. I myself plan to go there carrying truckloads of clothes, blankets, medicines, milk powder, biscuits, general things for the children there. I plan to bring in the New Year there, and try and build a better tomorrow. I hope it brings a little cheer into their lives, even though it is too much to ask for from those poor kids right now, because of the trauma they've just undergone." Vashu Bhagnani also tells us, "The entire first show collections in Maharashtra (45-50 theatres) of Vaada will go to the tsunami victims. I am also holding auctions of clothes used in all my films and the proceeds will go to charity. The Coast Guard says they will send an entire ship, if we want to send any relief material." Even as we speak, the industry, with Sanjay Dutt taking an active lead interest, is planning shows, the proceeds of which will go towards the tsunami relief. And our other beautiful people aren't too far behind. The beautiful Aishwarya shows that her heart is beautiful too with a personal (and anonymous) donation of Rs 5 lakh through the Times Foundation. Hrithik Roshan had donated an undisclosed amount to the same as well. Indeed, such gestures are what endear our screen gods and dream merchants to the audience! They are beautiful people in reality! br>
