What's your poison?
If there is love, an illicit relationship, extra-marital sex and some thrills thrown in, then it has to be a Bhatt film. And Zeher seems to be no exception. Director Mohit Suri says the film is an "emotional thriller" while lead actor Emraan Hashmi adds, "there is a sexual relationship in the film but it is just one of the aspects of the film, the story is the King as was the case with Murder." Indeed, the success of Murder is what kick started the formula of skin and script in the industry. "But it is just the last few films the Bhatts have made that have had sex so it is unfair to paint all our works with the same brush," says Suri before admitting that he did run into trouble with the censor board for a love making scene. "They asked for a cut and I did not wish to fight over it. My film is not a sex film."
Hashmi plays a cop, jealous by the success of his wife (Shamita Shetty) in the same field, who meets Anna (Udita Goswami), a cancer patient. "My role is that of a woman of today and I related to her completely. She is independent, confident and knows what she wants from life," says Shetty. And what is her take on the current wave of skin flicks ruling the industry? "Times are changing. One has to give the audience what it wants but it is important to back it up with a good story, otherwise it does not work. As for me, there is a line beyond which I would not venture."
The film is also Delhi girl Udita Goswami's second outing after her debut Paap and she says that she did not sign any films since "I want meaty roles." Paap also gave her the image of the girl next door which she wanted to change. "I took on this film since I have to play a mature married woman. I had to work on my look, make my voice heavier and there were times when I would react to a situation like a girl, only to be told 'think like a woman!""
